Definition: The Average or Arithmetic Mean is the sum of all observations in the given data set divided by the total number of observations in the dataset.

It should be noted that the mean or average is a measure of statistical central tendency that only applies to quantitative variables, that is, only to numerical data.

To calculate it: add up all the numbers, then divide by how many numbers there are.
